Before you ask, no Bill Murray is not at the Final Four looking to take down some ghosts or gophers or shoot some shots with Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny.

He's in Phoenix for a family reason: His son, Luke, is one of UConn's assistant coaches.

The comedian and actor — who starred in "Ghostbusters," "Groundhog Day" and "Saturday Night Live" — was spotted on press row inside State Farm Stadium sitting next to Field of 68 Network's Rob Dauster before tipoff of Saturday's first Final Four game between 1 seed Purdue and 11 seed NC State.

Here's what you need to know about why Murray is attending Alabama-UConn in the Final Four:

Why is Bill Murray at the Alabama game vs UConn in Final Four?

Like many other celebrities who traveled to Arizona this weekend, Murray is at the Final Four to take in the highly anticipated Final Four. But that isn't the only reason why Murray is in The Valley on Saturday night. As aforementioned, his son, Luke, is one of UConn coach Dan Hurley's assistant coaches.

With Luke being in his third season on Hurley's staff, Bill has become a fixture at UConn's NCAA Tournament games over the last couple of years. He was in attendance for UConn's win in the Elite Eight in Las Vegas and national championship win in Houston last year.

Murray has been in attendance for all of UConn's March Madness games again this season. He was in attendance for both of UConn's games last weekend in Boston for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, in which the latter of the two, which came against his childhood team Illinois, he took in alongside comedian Larry David.

Luke Murray is in his third season on the UConn bench. Before taking the Huskies assistant job in 2021, he was an assistant both at Xavier and Louisville under now-College of Charleston coach Chris Mack. Bill Murray was a Xavier superfan at the time, so you can expect the "Caddyshack" co-star to be a fan of whatever school his is coaching for come in March.

Where is Bill Murray from?

Bill grew up in Evanston, Illinois and was a fan of the Illini as a child. He moved to New York City in 1974 where he paired up with John Belushi on The National Lampoon Radio Hour — a comedy radio show that was created, produced and written by staff from National Lampoon magazine — before landing a spot on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." He attended Regis University in Denver but dropped out before graduating.
