Joshua Primo: 4 things to know about the Alabama men's basketball guard

Joshua Primo joined the Alabama men's basketball team with much fanfare ahead of the 2020-21 season.
He reclassified to play college basketball a year early. He was rated a five-star player by 247Sports and a four-star player by ESPN and Rivals, according to Alabama Athletics.
Primo started 12 of his first 19 games at Alabama, and through his first 19 games, Primo averaged 8.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23.9 minutes a game.

Joshua Primo played for Canada's national team at FIBA U19 World Cup
Playing as Josh Primo, the future Alabama guard was part of the Canadian men's basketball national team at the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup in Crete, Greece.
The tournament spanned from June 29 to July 7, 2019. The United States won the competition with Canada finishing eighth.
Primo, 16 years old at the time, played in six of the team's seven games. He averaged 4.2 points in 11.1 minutes. His best game was eight points, three assists and one rebound against Senegal in the Round of 16.
The team also included his Alabama teammate Keon Ambrose-Hylton. They were coached by University of Calgary's Dan Vanhooren.
Joshua Primo, Auburn's JT Thor were high school teammates
Joshua Primo, then going by Josh Primo, and Auburn forward JT Thor were teammates at Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia, during the 2018-19 season. Now, they're both freshmen in the Southeastern Conference.
Both players left the Huntington Prep program after that season. Thor went to Norcross High School in Norcross, Georgia. Primo went to Royal Crown Academic School in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.
The Huntington Prep basketball program closed down after the 2019-20 season.
Huntington Prep head coach Arkell Bruce said to Mountaineer Sports about Primo after the 2018-19 season, "High level shooter, really good athlete." Bruce said of Thor at the same time, "He’s also very versatile, a lefty, extremely athletic, slender, but really, really, really talented kid."
Joshua Primo's sister, Keshia Primo, played college basketball
Joshua Primo's sister, Keshia Primo, played on the Buffalo Bulls women's basketball team during the 2008-09 season.
She wore No. 1 for the Bulls. The 2008-09 Buffalo women's basketball team was coached by Linda Hill-MacDonald and went 8-24 overall and 2-14 in the Mid-American Conference.
After her one season in Buffalo, she played at Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College for one season. She then joined the Division II Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team for three seasons 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2013-14.
During the 2013-14 season, Primo averaged 13.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.0 steals in 22 games. She was named to the 2014 Northeast 10 Conference Honorable Mention Team.
Joshua Primo's mom died in 2012
Sandra Eileen Primo died Nov. 26, 2012, according to an obituary from the Toronto Star, following "a lengthy, courageous battle with illness."
Sandra Primo was 51 years old.
"She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Michael, and cherished forever by their children, Keshia, Joshua and Michael," the obituary states.
After Primo scored 12 points in Alabama's 85-65 win at Kentucky on Jan. 12, 2021, he tweeted, "12 points on the 12th day... Happy Birthday Mom. I love you forever." He included emojis of hearts and praying hands as well.
